THUNDERTHIGHS

Now that we’ve demonstrated that I am wildly liberal and politically angry, back to our regularly scheduled artwork. Thank you for bearing the brunt of my art block.
This is an amalgamation of two things: my need to see body diversity in art, and my recently discovered love for poster making. I never understood why ‘thunder thighs’ was an insult. It sounds powerful to me. Reminiscent of an almighty, unstoppable ruckus in the clouds, a veritable fucking rock show of giants, Bikini Kill on amps the size of mountains.
Thunder thighs, huh? I can dig it.

*sigh* I had yet another dream about Spain. Oh, how my heart aches for Spain and it’s magnificent culture (and food!).
This was my favorite city that we went to - Toledo, Spain! I most definitely recommend going here: so much culture, beauty, and just awesomeness.

Spain.
Oh, how I miss you. :(

Spain.

Oh, how I miss you. :(

If you don’t have self-esteem, you will hesitate to do anything in your life. You will hesitate to report a rape. You will hesitate to defend yourself when you are discriminated against because of your race, your sexuality, your size, your gender. You will hesitate to vote; you will hesitate to dream. For us to have self-esteem is truly an act of revolution, and our revolution is long overdue.

[Y]ou do not have anything interesting to say to someone who is struggling with obesity. You do not have better willpower than they do. You do not “care about myself” more. You are not more “serious about a healthy lifestyle” because you took off the eight pounds you gained at Christmas. You are no more qualified to lecture the obese on how to lose weight than I am qualified to lecture my short friends on how to become tall. You just have a different environmental and genetic legacy than they do. You’re not superior. You’re just somewhat thinner.

Self-love isn’t about brushing the bits you hate under the rug. There is no rug. You’re either all in, or you’re simply not done learning to love yourself yet. Loving what we hate is incredibly challenging, and sometimes actual love is impossible. But acceptance will do. Even if none of my ideas ring true for you, give some thought to actions and thought patterns that might move you closer to accepting your whole self with affection. The work might be hard, but the payoff will be so very, very worth it. Just think of all the extra energy you’d have if you stopped burning it off loathing your big nose, bad hair, weak chin! You could take over the damned world, kitten.
